Forest bathing is the practice of taking a short, leisurely visit to a forest for health benefits. The practice originated in Japan where it is called shinrin-yoku (森林浴).
The practice is proven by scientists to benefit physical as well as mental health, as it helps lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduces stress hormone production, boosts immunity and mood, and improves overall feelings of wellbeing. Its positive effects can last up to a month following each weekend in the woods.

There are hundreds of practices you can use to help you connect with the natural world. It is a common misconception that in order to reap the extensive benefits of nature you must disappear miles into the mountains for several days at a time. Not to discount the exquisite quality of this kind of vision quest, but there plenty of advantages to be had in regular, short jaunts into green and blue spaces. The main idea in Forest Bathing is not how far you can go, but how deep you can go.
